Historically speaking (2005-present) there have been numerous outdoor projects that have failed for any number of reasons. The majority of the time, these failures are caused my bad kiosk enclosure design and not taking into consideration the installation region, location and LCD direction, along with all the environmental elements. One example is the outdoor kiosk project for DynaTouch at the Austin Convention Center. This design by a "not-to-be-named" vendor was plagued from the start and in fact, the touchscreens glass temps at the height of the day were exceeding 140F, especially the south facing units, not acceptable and dangerous for human touch. The client wanted to salvage the custom enclosures as they were an intricate part of the branded theme and function. So we got right to work and did a complete analysis, identified the core issues, came up with a game plane and then set that plan in motion. Three months later the kiosks were retrofitted, functioning and the touchscreen glass temps were now closer to 106F, within tolerance for a forced air system. Do you have a problem kiosk project?
